PRESIDENT George Maxwell Richards has come in for another round of fire from Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday for his continued failure to appoint an Integrity Commission board.
According to a press statement Mr. Panday says It is over four months that there has been no Integrity Commission to receive and investigate complaints from the public and to review declarations of interests from persons in public life.
The Couva North MP said By the President not appointing a board, he is facilitating a situation where the law cannot function and is contributing to the breakdown of the law.
The Integrity Commission was forced to resign in February after the High Court ruled that the Commission was “guilty of acting in bad in its pursuit of former PNM Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
President Richards appointed a new Board in May but this collapsed within a matter of days after it was revealed that His Excellency bungled several aspects of the appointments.
The President has since stated that he is having difficulty in finding suitable people to serve on the Integrity Commission.
