A female employee of the Port Authority in Tobago was yesterday screened for the A-H1N1 virus …at the Accident and Emergency Department …of the Scarborough Regional Hospital … after disembarking.

The woman displayed mild flu-like symptoms …during a trip aboard the T&T Spirit to Tobago which left Port of Spain at noon yesterday and arrived in Tobago at approximately 3 p.m.

The employee reportedly has had no history of direct contact …with anyone who is …or was… confirmed with the swine flu virus …but was screened as a precaution.

The THA Division of Health and Social Services confirmed the incident… adding the Scarborough Regional Hospital conducted the necessary clinical protocols for observation… testing… and treatment purposes …and instituted the necessary isolation procedures for the patient.

Tobago’s Division of Health assured yesterday… all necessary sanitary measures will continue to be implemented on the Port Authority vessels …to prevent A (H1N1) contamination.

Meanwhile…Health Minister Jerry Narace has produced proof that the Health Ministry has been approached… to place orders for the influenza A H1N1 virus vaccine.

Minister Narace was responding to comments made by Opposition Senator Tim Gopeesingh… who accused him of fooling citizens

But the Minister assured citizens the Health Ministry was on top of the situation.

He was at the time speaking at the opening of the Dialysis unit and oncology department …at the Sangre Grande Regional Hospital yesterday.
