Senior Counsel Israel Khan is urging Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni, to publicly apologise for the atrocities meted out to East Indians some decades ago, during the reign of President Idi Amin.
Museveni and his wife arrived in Trinidad and Tobago as guests of the Government for the Emancipation Day Celebrations. He will deliver the feature address tomorrow at a dinner hosted by the National Association for the Empowerment of African Peoples, in Macoya.
Speaking to News Power this morning, Khan said while he is not trying to embarrass the president, he believes Museveni is a humanitarian, and he wants to encourage him to do the right thing.
The senior attorney noted that in 1972, up to one hundred thousand East Indians were expelled from their homes and had their properties confiscated.
Khan praised this country for displaying unity, and advised Museveni to take a page from our book. He stressed that unlike Uganda, Africans and East Indians in this country have managed to coexist and are an example to other nations.
