The government has chosen veteran media practitioner, Ken Gordon, to head a committee which would be responsible for creating guidelines to improve the standard of the profession.
Information Minister, Neil Parsanlal, says the move was taken because of challenges faced in agreeing on common ground to better the way media operates in the country.
Minister Parsanlal made the comment while speaking in the Senate yesterday as he tried to clear the air on the relationship between the media and the government.
Mr Parsanlal said the work of the committee which would comprise of media personnel is critical in ensuring every one understands their role and responsibilities.
The Information Minister also urged media managers and owners to pay attention to exposing their staff members to training while they tried to make their operation profitable.
