Local Government Minister Hazel Manning is expressing her concern for residents in the San Juan Laventille area who were badly hit by yesterday’s disastrous flooding.
Today Mrs. Manning, accompanied by Members of Parliament for the affected areas, Sports Minister Gary Hunt, Minister in the Ministry of National Security Donna Cox and Tourism Minister Joseph Ross toured the communities.
From Barataria in the east to St. Ann’s in the West the scene that greeted the Local Government Minister was shocking.
Mrs. Manning donned her high heels for construction boots and though visibly sweating and seemingly tired toured each of the affected areas, chatting with residents along the way.
The PNM MP’s were also accompanied by officials from the San Juan Laventille Regional Corporation and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management.
The hardest hit areas were Barataria, the Malick Link Road, and Morvant including Coconut Drive, Mon Repos, Never Dirty and Ariapita Street in St. Anns.
Residents were seen trying to clean out their homes and surroundings and crews from the Ministry of Local Government and CEPEP were assisting in cleanup operations along the roads and watercourses.
