Congress of the People has criticized government for the lack of a prompt response to the hardships suffered by those affected in the wake of yesterday’s heavy rains.
In a statement this afternoon the party singled out Prime Minister Patrick Manning, Works Minister Colm Imbert and National Security Minister Martin Joseph, for not making any kind of statement to the nation.
COP’s spokesman on works and transport Sadiq Baksh, described as arrant nonsense the Works ministry’s statement that it would take four days to set up two Bailey Bridges on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, in Macoya.
Vehicular traffic in this area has been severely disrupted as a result of the collapse of the bridge Monday night.
Baksh contends the ministry has the necessary infrastructure to effect a more expeditious handling of the emergency situation.
Meanwhile Imbert was among a number of government ministers who addressed the flooding situation at a Whitehall news conference this afternoon.
