The Tobago House of Assembly is being sued by the families of Carolina Barrylas of Spain… and Yannick Quesnel of Cascade
The families are taking the Assembly to court for approximately 5.4 million dollars… as a result of a boat accident… off Pigeon Point in June last year.
The THA’s Legal Unit said the Barrylas family has sued the Assembly for 286 thousand euros…approximately 2.4 million TT dollars… while the Quesnel family’s suit amounted 3 million TT.
On June 12, 2007 at approximately 5:15pm… Barrylas who was 16 year at the time… and 17 year old Quesnel …were allegedly injured by a pirogue driver by Ricardo Roberts of Buccoo.
Yanick remained in a coma …while Barrylas recuperated after undergoing surgery in Miami.
The families are represented by attorney from Chancery Chambers.
Senior State Council, Alvin Pascal is representing the Assembly.
Agriculture Secretary, Hilton Sandy said in light of the action… boat owners needed to be insured properly and acquire the necessary license.
He made the comment recently while speaking at a ceremony to launch 2 reef patrol vessels at Pigeon Point.
