Magistrate Goes on Trial Today

Senior Magistrate Joanne-Connor would go on trial in the Port of Spain Magistrates Court in relation to traffic offences.

When the matter was first called on March 19 before Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicholls, Connor pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Connor who presides in the Siparia magistrates Court is being represented by Senior Counsel Dana Seetahal and Sophia Chote, while State prosecutor George Busby is prosecuting.

Connor was charged with failure to comply with traffic signals, inconsiderate driving and improper overtaking.

On June 8th 2006, Magistrate Connor was driving along the Audrey Jeffers Highway, Mucurapo, when she allegedly gave another driver a bad drive.

It is also alleged that she attempted to make an illegal U-turn upon sighting licensing officers who were at the time conducting road exercises on the Highway.

She was ordered to stop her vehicle and slapped with the charges by licensing officer Newton via summons.
