Although there is no need to panic over inflation in Tobago, the island’s Secretary for Finance Enterprise and Development has stressed it cannot be ignored.
Addressing reporters in the sister island Dr Anslem London, said that the headline inflation figure of 12.5per cent, higher than that of Trinidad, was a matter of concern particularly for anyone managing macro economic policies.
The greatest concern he explained was that of food inflation, which was very worrisome especially for those in the low income bracket.
Dr London disclosed that research into price movement showed that overall inflation and its components were imported from Trinidad.
The challenge facing Tobago he noted was what residents and the THA could could do about it.
This he continued be addressed in many ways but it required some cooperation by the government and households.
Admitting the problem would not be solved overnight Dr London conceded that individuals and households combined with government and its agencies cold wrestle it to the ground.
