Finding out the root causes of violence and indiscipline in schools is the task given to a committee set by the Education Ministry.

The Ministry also plans to review its systems and make adjustments where necessary to tackle this and other areas of concern.

Earlier this week, 16 year old Shaquille Roberts, a form 5 pupil of Success \Laventille School was fatally stabbed by another student.

The incident sparked calls for tougher security measures to put in place at the nation’s schools.

Education Minster Esther Le Gendre says the committee, which will be chaired by Manager of Student Support Services Steve Williams would play a key role in tackling the matter.

She says Criminologist Professor Ramesh Deosaran would also be a part of the committee as well as a representative of the inter-religious community.

The Education Minister maintains every one must join in the fight against indiscipline and violence in school.
