A San Fernando based female reporter has reported to the Mayor of San Fernando, and the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago an alleged verbal abuse of her by a government official this morning.

The incident is alleged to have taken place within the hearing the hearing of officials of the San Fernando City Council and the public, after today’s monthly meeting of the council.

The reporter told News Power the unexpected attack came while she was speaking to her journalist colleague.

She said the official who is also a member of parliament, accosted her in a loud tone accusing her of not supporting him in the November 5 general election campaign.

She was also accused of “selling out” and when asked who did she sell out to and what, he could not reply.

But the official continued his loud verbal attack saying she was always writing negative stories about him, and that it was her reporter friends who told him she had “sold out.”

The shaken journalist added that she felt very disrespected, humiliated, and wanted an apology – publicly or in private – from the official.

MATT officials and the alleged abuser could not be reached by News Power for comment this afternoon
