The government is dismissing claims that the timing of the visit of St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Ralph Gonzalves to this country is not connected to the allegation of rape by a female police officer.

Prime Minister Gonzalves maintains the allegations are false and aimed at removing him from office.

36 year old Constable Michelle Andrews contends she was raped by Mr Gonzalves on January 3rd at the Prime Minister’s official residence.

The Director of Public Prosecution in that country has dropped the case citing a lack of evidence against the Prime Minister.

The move is not going down well with the officer’s lawyers and the Opposition party.

Dr Gonzalves arrived in Trinidad and Tobago around noon today and during his 2 day visit he would hold talks with government officials on matter such as crime, health and education.

However, speaking at the weekly post cabinet news briefing held at White Hall yesterday, Foreign Affairs Minister Paula Gopee Scoon said the visit has nothing to do with the criminal matter hanging over Dr Gonzalves.
