Robert Giuseppi will be moving back into his old St Augustine office…
he has been reinstated to the post of president general of the National Union of Government and Federated Workers Union.
Giuseppi lost his position in the April 7 elections to James Lambert, but was granted a High Court injunction yesterday
This situation gives new meaning to the word controversy… Since the April 7 election…there has been what is being perceived as a power struggle between James Lambert of the Faithfuls …and Robert Giuseppe
You may recall after the election…Lambert was declared the winner…and was propelled into the position of Present General of the Union
But that was short lived
Resisting the move, Giuseppi filed an ex parte injunction, claiming that The Faithfuls were illegally occupying positions in the union as national executive officers.
His argument was that Lambert and his team took up their new posts without waiting on the final recount of the votes, which is a union law.
Giuseppi got his way yesterday… after The injunction was granted by Justice Maureen Rajnath-Lee, sitting in the Port-of-Spain High Court yesterday.
The injunction, in effect, means that Lambert and his team must step down immediately as national executive officers.
Giuseppi says will move back into the president-general’s office this morning, located at the corner of Francis and Scott Streets, St Augustine, from where Lambert and his team had already begun running the union.
He explained the court also ruled that general secretary, Jacqueline Jack, must continue in the position until the final count of votes.
Asked if he was happy after being granted the injunction, Giuseppi replied:
“There is nothing to feel happy about. This mightn’t last long. Only a week.
“We only did this to prove that rules must be obeyed.”
The hearing of the injunction comes up in the High Court on Monday.
