The distributors for the Par Excellence brand of rice, are assuring consumers they will not have to worry about rice supplies or shortages anytime soon
The words of comfort comes although our main supplier, Brazil has banned its rice exports
Managing director of JMH Enterprises, Charles James explains the population should not be worried as we will be receiving another shipment of rice by Friday
He adds rice supplies from Brazil will be coming in as usual and with no foreseeable problems for at least the rest of the year.
James said the amount of rice available may decrease, however, and there will be no extra rice for storage or any surpluses left on grocery shelves.
But he assures there will be enough for consumers to purchase what they need on a monthly basis
He advised consumers "to resist the urge to mass buy and store rice, as there will be enough for everybody and there is no need to panic buy”.
James said presently, this country imports about 40 large containers of rice every month.
Each container holds an estimated 24,000 tonnes of rice.
