Prison authorities last night made special security arrangements for Sunil Ali… the man accused of killing eight-year-old Hope Arismandez.
It’s reported Ali would be put in a special cell and would be kept under constant watch.
Officers say the decision was made after noting the large number of threats hurled at him when he appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate yesterday… charged with the child’s murder
Earlier in the day when Ali was taken to court… prisoners had refused to sit with him in the trucks …and shouted that they will await his arrival in prison Also…a large crowd of angry on-lookers converged outside the Chaguanas Magistrates Court yesterday morning to catch a glimpse of the accused child killer
28-year-old Sunil Ali appeared before Magistrate Nanette Forde-John who read the murder charge to him.
Ali informed the Magistrate that he did not have a lawyer.
The matter was then adjourned to June 9.
Representing the State was Attorney Wayne Rajbansee.
Notably absent from the Court were relatives for both Ali and the murdered child.
Newspower understands the large crowd outside the court jeered and shouted obscenities at Ali.
During the crowd’s sneers, the suspect kept his head down at all times and never looked up at the angry mob.
There was also a heavy police presence to control the crowd.
Meanwhile a woman was charged for using obscene language while outside the Court, which is obliquely opposite the Chaguanas Police Station.
According to Senior Superintendent Rattan, he understands the emotion the angry crowd was venting, however he felt the woman’s behaviour was a bad example to the youth who were gathered outside the court.
He said the behaviour of the woman, who has been identified as Donna Belfon, was also disrespectful to police officers.
Ms. Belfon was reprimanded and discharged according to the Summary Offences Act.
