Former head of the Law Association…Russell Martineau…says Trinidad and Tobago nationals are too judgemental

Speaking on National Television this morning the lead attorney was referring to what he described as needless controversy surrounding the decision to temporarily appoint Deputy Commissioner of police …James Philbert… to act as Police Commissioner from next week

The decision was made after Police Commissioner Trevor Paul opted…quite suddenly…to leave before the end of his tenure

Commissioner Paul will demit office effective July 4

According to Martineau…People are missing the point

He says there have been no changes to the constitution as it pertains to the appointment of a police Commissioner…and so it is this old legislation…through the Interpretation Act… that’s guiding the Police Service Commission

He says its right to have a commissioner in the position until a final decision is made

On a separate matter Martineau says the country’s money is being wasted…while crime spirals out of control

He laments the answers are staring the authorities in the face… but no-one seems to notice

Martineau he says looks forward to see a Forensics Science School opening up in this country…to better train policemen…and other specialist officers…to handle crime
