The Copy Right Amendment Bill 2008 has been passed this paves the way for performers and producers to be compensated.
In an interview with newspower, Fabien Alphonso Entertainment Media Consultant with Pan Trinbago says this can only be accomplished when the Government signs on to the World Intellectual Property Organization Performances Treaty.
Mr. Alphonso says they are now holding talks with the Intellectual Property Office which is responsible for spearheading the government to sign this deal.
Alphonso says this would not be a conflict of interest as there will now be two separate fees.
As the Copy Right Organization will continue to collect on behalf of producers while a new organization would make representation on behalf of performers.
