President of the Trinidad and Tobago Medical Association Balkaran Ramkissoon, insists the sixteen doctors were dismissed last week.
This is in response to Minister Rahael’s assertion that no doctors were fired.
Last Friday, sixteen young doctors at the Port of Spain General Hospital were allegedly dismissed.
The doctors recently completed their internship programmes and had been working for a month.
However, in a statement released today, Rahael says there seems to be a misunderstanding on the part of the senior doctors.
He added that Government has no intention of denying jobs to locals.
But according to the senior doctor, the young medics were told their posts had become redundant.
In addition, he claims one of the doctors was told foreign doctors were favoured over locals.
The sixteen doctors are expected to hold a press conference today to address the matter.
