Investigations are to begin this week into Saturday’s collapse of the Bailey Bridge in Caroni
One man…identified as Ramdath Bissoon …died in the accident
3 others were injured…they were treated at hospital and discharged
Yesterday workmen were moving apace to remove the vehicles that went down with the bridge
In an interview …St Augustine MP… Vasant Bharath … believes it is much too early to blame anyone for the accident…
But Bharath said… the call by Prime Minister Patrick Manning for a report to be submitted within 24 hours by Works Minister Colm Imbert was an obvious display of the importance of the situation.
And Bharath extended his condolences to Bissoon’s bereaved family
In the meantime the Works Ministry is refuting claims the bridge was erected as a temporary measure
In a release issued yesterday the ministry said the Bridge was built in 1996 to provide 2-way traffic on the Southern Main road across the river
The Ministry assures a thorough investigation into the incident will be conducted
