High Court Judge, Justice Nolan Bereaux is confident he can give a ruling on the controversial matter concerning the Hindu Credit Union by Wednesday.

Three weeks ago the company was put into liquidation with all its assets frozen and documents handed over to the liquidators.

Auditing firm Ernst and Young has been appointed to conduct an audit into the troubled Credit Union.

When the matter was called before the court around 1:30 this afternoon, the HCU’S attorney made submissions that the court did not have any jurisdiction to adjudicate on the matter.

The lawyer added under the Credit Union Cooperative Society Act, protection was offered and it was the Commissioner of Cooperatives that has the power to intervene and taken the necessary action.

Attorney representing the state, Reginald Armorer is expected to argue tomorrow that the court has the power to take the action it did.
