Acting on the advice of police officers, Prime Minister Manning yesterday cancelled his much anticipated Point Fortin walkabout.
The officers were told that many supporters resented the PNM for not accepting Member of Parliament Larry Achong, as the candidate for the Point Fortin seat.
However, Constituency Executive Officer Anna Smart, did not believe there would have been trouble during Manning’s visit and was disappointed by his decision.
Smart stressed that despite instructions from the party’s screening committee last Friday to find another candidate, the constituency executive was supporting Achong.
She added that nineteen out of twenty party groups were backing the Parliament member and that this would not change any time soon.
According to Smart, the committee was yet to be told of another date for the walkabout.
