Chaguanas West MP, Jack Warner is claiming the property tax hike announced in the budget one week ago has resulted in fear among his constituents who worry about losing their homes.
In a television interview Mr. Warner describes the move as an attack on the middle and lower income groups of society.
Finance Minister Karen Nunez Tesheira however is defending the property tax hike
She says the present system is based on an outdated 1940’s model.
Despite this Mr. Warner maintains that pensioners will suffer most
In the meantime debate on the controversial budget continues this morning in the House of Representatives with contributions from Diego Martin West MP, Dr. Keith Rowley and Siparia MP, Kamla Persad Bissessar.
